Biography

Ahmet Aksoy holds a Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Texas Tech University, a master's in Media and Public Relations from Newcastle University, and a bachelor's degree in Communication from East Carolina University. He is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Columbia College. Before joining Columbia College, he spent four years working in higher education administration developing programs in academic advising, mentoring, multicultural affairs, parent and family involvement, and student organizations. Ahmet has also served as a communication specialist for Houston Community College and the Newcastle City Council, where he aided in the construction and delivery of digital messages and content for both entities.

His scholarly interest lies in exploring how cultural identities are shaped and communicated within society. Ahmet focuses attention on cultural identity negotiations within inter/cultural communication by attending to the intersections of race, ethnicity, nationality, and religion. His interest also examines communication pedagogy practices. 

Ahmet has a joy for teaching and mentoring students. Upon joining the Columbia College faculty, he has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Helen DeVitt Jones Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award and the Support and Guidance Mentor Award at Texas Tech University.
